Bassam has 23 years of experience in the Photonics and semiconductor industry, bringing optical MEMS products to market. Bassam manages the Optical MEMS Technology division, which has developed the world’s first single-chip FT-IR spectrometer.
Prior to founding SWS, Bassam was with MEMScAP where he served as design manager of the optical MEMS group in Cairo. His group focused on the development of photonic components targeting telecom & sensor applications. Bassam’s prior positions include leading the behavioral modeling team at Mentor Graphics Egypt, as well as design positions at ENPPI, focusing on sensors and telecom systems.
Bassam received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering, both with honors, from Ain-Shams University, Cairo, and his Ph.D. degree in MEMS and Nanostructures from the University of Paris-Sud, Orsay, France.
Bassam is the author and co-author of more than 40 publications in international journals and conferences, he also holds 12 patents. He is also the principal inventor of SiMOSTTM technology enabling micro fabrication of optical systems on a single chip.
